What is the Shefford Funday?

Note:

Sadly, there was no Shefford Fun Day in 2009.

These things take money to organise and, as you may have heard, there isn't a lot about.

However, we will be back bigger and better in 2010.

See you there!!!

Charity Fun Day Brings Radio 1 Presenter to Shefford [Media Release – June 2008]

This summer, Shefford’s 2nd Summer Sunday Fun Day and Cricket Tournament will be opened by Radio 1’s Dominic Byrne. Dominic, who is part of the popular Chris Moyles Breakfast Show team, will then stay on to take part in some of the day’s activities and sign autographs.

This traditional English summer event, takes place at Shefford Memorial Ground on 29th June from midday onwards. Hosted by Big Quiz Nights, the day involves fun and entertainment for the whole family, including a min charity tournament between teams of local people, gladiator jousting, welly wanging, sumo wrestling, bouncy castle, coconut shy, BBQ and much more.

All proceeds from the fun day will go towards Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice which cares for children with life-limited illnesses and their families from across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes. To provide the care these families need costs around £2 million every year, but as a charity Keech needs to raise 75% of this from the local community.

The event organisers are long-term Keech Cottage supporters, Ed Goodman, Steve Carter and Nigel Swan.

Ed said “Our first event last year raised over £1000 and we would really like to better that this year. We're delighted to be welcoming Dominic Byrne to the event this year and we’re sure that, with so many activities to choose from, it will be a day to remember for the whole family.”

Thank you for your tough, searching questions that you wanted me to put to Dominic Byrne, which he has kindly answered. If you want to ask him any more, then you'll just have to come along to the Shefford Funday on 29th June 2008 and ask him yourself!!

In the meantime, please visit http://www.pasque.org/child.html to remind yourself why we're doing this and here are Dominic's answers..

1. How is the Sea Lion getting on? Dominic the sealion is very well thanks. We're up at Whipsnade zoo all the time so we're tracking his progress. I don't know much about sealions but he eats lots of fish and swims. This is a good thing I think!

2. Which member of the Breakfast Show team annoys you the most and why? Boring answer but none of them. If we didn't all get on very very well then we wouldn't have been doing this for almost 5 years.

3. What would be your first reform if you became London Mayor? I think a tax incentive for U2 loving Liverpool fans with no hair would be high up on the list.

4. What do you really think of Johnny Vaughan? Quite good on TV - not so good on the radio.

5. Who is your barber? He's called Mach3 - nice bloke - cheap too!

6. Do you ever actually dress up as a pirate/spaceman? Ah - a Space Pirates Question ! Of course i dress up - are you going to tell me that you don't? Everyone should have at least one pirate costume in their wardrobe.

7. Are you a legs, tits or arse man?? Luckily my wife has all three of these body parts so that's enough for me!

8. After Maidstone where is Folk Face's next gig (could it be Shefford)? Good question. Folk Face have only played 2 gigs so far – Glastonbury and Radio 1's big weekend in Maidstone. The problem with us is that we don't have many songs (2 at the last count). I think we should really crank things up a notch and try and write a third. We are always available for gigs - it's just that there'll be very short!

9. Who was the best/worst celebrity you have interviewed? Best celebrity was Dustin Hoffman - hilarious. After the interview we had a 10 minute chat all about the reasons why men have nipples. I like him a lot. The worst was Chris Rock - i was interviewing him for the film Madagascar - he was so quiet and not interested. We also got him in on the show and he was exactly the same. That was a shame cos Chris Moyles is a big fan of his.

10. What is your favourite cheese?mmm. I'm going to say Halloomi ( if that's spelt wrong i'll say brie)

11. Which came first? The chicken or the egg? Egg. No chicken. Er... No egg. er....

12. What is your favourite U2 song? Hard one. I love "Drowning Man" from the War album. Also love" One", "Vertigo" and "If you wear that velvet dress." They've got too many great songs.

13. Does your son really watch space pirates? Yes he does - it's not like I strap him to the sofa so he has to endure!!! He loves it. He's also totally unimpressed that his Daddy plays the part of a green alien. And that's fine by me.

Thanks to Dominic Byrne for the support that he is giving us to host this event and help us raise as much as we can for Keech Cottage Childrens Hospice.

The 1st Sunday Funday, Shefford (29th July 2007)
Wow!! What an unbelievable 1st Sunday Funday. The cricket match was a close contest with Crease Lightening (80 all out) losing to the innaugural winners Mad Batters Tea Party (81 for 7) by 3 wickets.

Most importantly, the sunshine held firm and with the proceeds being doubled by the Royal Mail, we managed to raise £1092 for Keech Cottage.

Big Quiz Nights have commited to doing it all again next year, and if you would like to take part or join the organisation team, then please email us at questions@bigquiznights.co.uk with your contact details and one of us will get in touch.

Thank you all, as always, for your support!
